Server & Portal Changes — Easier Link Maneuverability, Better Help & Easier Maintenance

We’ve added new ‘quick’ links to move around our portal and get things done.

Three sub-domains have been added:

1) changed /games from a failtable to a sentence-like structure:

* Current games of type W3XP
* ————————————
* – [8]…. SD …. by _viXen_ [#7:open:2]
* – [5]apemso by KIMOCHI [#4:open:7]
* – [0]GOGO! by scant [#3:open:3]

In order: Level – game name – game host – game ID – game state – number of players

2) alias /j to /join (similar to /g to /games)

/j W3 Channel

3) Fixed autohelp for softlock (/help softlock)

4) banned ghost bots at a server level and made exceptions for legal bots (more on that soon)

5) added functionality for admins to easily search channel logs (via website) to help monitor various commands which are otherwise obscure to track

6) improved signup process when signing up via forum (will automatically set your pvpgn password)

7) Added new operator commands

- Admin announce between each other
- /kill command
- IPScan command

8 ) Added Pagination to download area

- The download area (http://twilightgaming.co.za/downloads) will now be paged. The latest updates will always be on top, while the older files will be archived in the pages further down.

Warcraft III 1.24D Update – LIVE

As of this moment, the server will require you to be running 1.24d which was recently released.

The easiest way to update

If you have a working installation, the update should be as simple as:

  • Log into Twilight
  • Let the download complete
  • Click restart Warcraft when prompted
  • Restart Warcraft AGAIN (this is because the first restart does not launch with w3l.exe)
  • Log in and continue  as normal

.. and if that doesn’t work

If you encounter errors during the installation, make sure you read the details of the error (click “Show Details”) before giving up. Typically, the issue you’ll come across reads:

Registry error loading key ‘Warcraft III\InstallPath’

To fix this, either manually add the key or download this file and follow the instructions the installer gives you.

Server Restart – 27 January Updates

Restarted server to implement the following updates:

-1 Punishment from all accounts. If your account had 0Pm’s you won’t see a difference.

This is a small present for those with punishments. Last night we held a small trivia-thing where we awarded those without a punishment 250 experience.

Following the punishment deduction we added a delete function for the download section -> admin only.

Visit the download section here.

Warcraft III Patch 1.24d

There is a new (minor) update to Warcraft 3. As usual, we will do our best to support this update as soon as possible. Expect local links and upgrade guides within the next few days.

- Fixed a client crash related to queuing too many invalid build commands (“crash hack”).

Twilight Gaming Turns 4 Years Old

We’re officially a few years more mature than half the user base!

At about 12 o’ clock this morning we restarted the server for it’s 4th birthday. The restart allowed us to update, and implement a few new things for the up and coming year.

While many won’t see the changes, you will be effected by them. For instance, the finger command is now a lot more readable, and usable for operators and admins. This means that we can ban you even faster!

We have added a join feature to the /filter command (you do you /filter, right?), we’ve then shortened a few commands. /g will now bring up the /games list. You lazy bastards.

One of the biggest changes would be for Diablo 2 players. Anyone above level 23 will now receive level 1 on the server. This allows level 0 D2 players to chat on the server.

Our personal favourite is definitely the new softlock command. Remember being locked? Well, now we can soft lock you instead of the usual lock account.

“Soft” locks are quite simply a way of describing the space between an unlocked account (who can join games up to their level) and a locked account (who can’t join any games, or even the server). A “softlocked” account can be restricted to a certain level. For example, if John is softlocked to level 20, then he will be unable to create or join games above level 20 for the duration of the lock. This restriction overrides the user’s level but has no other effect. John will still gain experience normally and his account will return to normal behavior once the lock is lifted.

Note that all unvalidated accounts are automatically softlocked to level 20. This will be automatically lifted once your account is validated (via the Portal) but may take a few minutes to process due to database caching.

Command usage:

/softlock [] – shows the softlock status for a given user (or you)
/softlock – alters the softlock status for a given user (admin only)

Didn’t see that one coming, did ya?

Finally, our birthday.

For those wondering, some accounts were created on the 25th, and the #war3 channel was created on the 25th. However on that day a few things did go wrong and our official birth was only on the 26th of January, 2006.

We’re now 4 years old!

To show our appreciation we’re doing the following:

Everyone with a punish will receive one deduction. When the server restarts again this will take place.
For those that were well behaved, we’ll be hosting a trivia type thing later today where you will be able to win experience. This will only be open to those with 0 punishments.

Various PvPGN updates

Freshly baked updates coming right at you from our development kitchen:

  • /filter now has it’s “join” option activated – use /help for more information
  • Diablo 2 accounts above level 23 (critical experience point) will be granted level 1 to avoid chat muting
  • /finger now gives some more useful information to operators
  • Channel logging significantly improved

With these server updates out the door, stay tuned for some exciting developments – specifically clan orientated!

(Updates are usually applied on Monday mornings)

2010 Rule Updates -> Change #1 -> Knowledge Base Updates

We recently asked you guys on the forum about what rules we should change. We’ve had a look at what can be done, and we’re now in the process of changing rules.

The first change is today, and this is in regards to hacking etc. Alongside this we’ve also updated a few staff pages.

Over the next few days we will be editing and removing other rules. Stay tuned.

Staff Level Changes — Be Aware Of Who You Are Talking To!

We’ve changed the levels for the staff members. There might be a bit of confusion between a few of them, but the in-game logos should clear this up when in chat.

The level changes are as follows:

Developers are level 100
Operators are level 100
Moderators are level 99
Community Activists are level 98
Inquisitors are level 97

The developers do not have in-game logos, whereas the Operators do. So don’t get confused between the two.

There are also emails for DEV, CA, INQ & OP.

dev @ tga.za.net — Bug reports
ca @ tga.za.net — Competitions/Tournaments
inq @ tga.za.net — Staff abuse
op @ tga.za.net — Ticket help support, etc

Alongside this, the staff have their own unique emails in case you need to contact them. The email will be theirnick @ tga.za.net — If you are confused you can always ask them for their email address.

Lastly, if your level is too low to create a ticket or you need help/support creating a ticket please contact op @ tga.za.net. They will help you out.

General support contact: support @ twilightgaming.co.za — This will be for all support regarding account password changes etc.
