Warcraft III 1.24C update

Blizzard have released a new patch to Warcraft III. The Twilight server has been prepped with this patch and we will make it available during this week along with upgrade guides.

Warcraft III v1.24 Patch Notes

  • Fixed a problem with the “Chapter Six: The Culling” human campaign map that was preventing it from loading.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed JASS functions to return incorrect values under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the TriggerEvaluate native to return incorrect values under certain conditions.
  • Fixed a minor memory leak when using GroupEnum natives.
  • Fixed a crash when using the CreateImage native on PPC Mac.
  • Updated Mac World Editor to work with recent JASS changes.

Mumble 1.2.0 is available

The latest version of Mumble brings many exciting new features. Unfortunately, the features are so numerous that older clients (from the 1.1.x series) cannot connect to the upgraded Twilight Murmur 1.2.0 server.

Among the many changes are an improved voice codec (quality and latency) and an improved user interface (easy to change layouts). Users are also now able to register in-client using a secure certificate wizard. Mumble is already vastly superior to TeamSpeak, and these changes only widen the gap.

If you are wanting to use this service (there is an open-to-all Diablo II channel), then please get the upgraded client.

If you are worried about not being able to use other Murmur servers, don’t worry! The install lets you put a legacy client in place which will work with older servers.

Portal cleanup

The Portal has been largely untouched since it was launched in October. With nearly 750 tickets and over 14 000 votes, we will now be working towards streamlining the experience for operators and users alike.

When the Portal first launched, the new Forums were not open to the public. Since the Forum houses our Knowledge Base, we had to make some temporary hacks to get the Portal to display the articles. Now that the Forum is open to all, that debt has been cleared – links under Knowledge Base in the Portal menu will now take you directly to the Forum article.

The Ticket view has been slowly molested as features were added (such as tagging and categories) – which resulted in a flock of information boxes pushing the real content off-screen. This was largely because we wanted to ensure users knew how to use it. Now that people are more comfortable with the system, we will be condensing information so that it becomes easier to skim-read a Ticket. The first such change sees a removal of two information boxes: the Ticket is now summarised by author, category and tags in a single box.

Root admins are now able to manually override the status of a Ticket. To prevent abuse, all attribute changes are now logged together with the username of the updater. This override is intended to work against irrelevant or manually-solved Tickets, usually caused by users not understanding the correct procedure. If you notice abuse of this, please contact the Inquisition team.

If you have any suggestions for how the Portal and Ticket system can be improved, don’t hesitate to leave them in a comment. As always, the development team can be reached here.

Ladder Hacking Rules

Due to so many players trying to score awesome icons without playing real games, we’ve implemented the following rules:

Link: http://forum.twilightgaming.co.za/index.php?/topic/643-ladder-hacking/

What is it?
X gets his friend Y to search ladder games against him and quit each time so that X can accumulate enough wins to attain a ladder icon.

What can we do?
Well ironically the easiest way to stop Ladder Hacking is to simply play Ladder games ourselves. X and Y will not get matched with each other and instead will have to quit or play a full game. Of course don’t succumb to deals such as “I can see your really good, I’m not so good. So how about I just quit for you a few times and then you let me win.”

What if you suspect someone of Ladder Hacking?
Similar to other server offenses, go open a ticket and label it “Ladder”
Post as much proof possible

The punishment for Ladder Hacking:

1st Offense: Punish to both accounts involved
2nd Offense: Double punish to both accounts involved
3rd Offense: Locked for 6 months
4th Offense: Locked — Indefinitely

*Punishments are subject to change at the discretion of the admin team

Melee ladder icon requirements

The icon requirements have been toned down a little as per this topic. The new requirements are:

[ICON_REQUIRED_RACE_WINS_W3XP]
Level1 = 10
Level2 = 50
Level3 = 100
Level4 = 200
Level5 = 350

Splash and forum updates

We’ve redesigned the splash page to make it easier for users to find the information they are looking for. The splash is there to help new comers find their way around the system.

The forum now displays clan information for the user. You can find this information on a user’s profile (click on their name) or in the info pane next to a post. The link will take you to the clan profile on our portal.

Downtime and changes

Earlier today there was some server downtime due to network failure at the IS data centre where Twilight is hosted. We apologise for the downtime. MyBroadBand have an article on this.

You may have noticed a slight change in the way leavers are reported: the player ID is now reported next to their name. This number can be used with the /vp command to reduce typing. To get a list of all IDs, use the /vplist command.

Twilight Staff Trial — Update & Removal, Take #2

It’s that time of the month again (…), and this time round we’re removing staff and then adding the remaining to an official position on the server. The trial run has come to an end, and overall we’re really happy with the results.

The ticket system has become a way of life for some users, and it sure works better than someone solo’ing the old forum.

To keep this short:

  • We’re working on 301 tickets for November.
  • Legacy operators no longer exist (Are those smiles I see?)
  • The removal process will see everyone with statistics below 40% of tickets voted on, for November, removed.
Operator Total Votes (Nov) % of tickets voted on (301) Tickets above average of 179
DEATH-ROAD 259 86.05 80
STORM 246 81.73 67
GoOd_FoRcE 241 80.07 62
[dl]zwetch 237 78.74 58
MichiKo 236 78.41 57
Shoprite_Packet 222 73.75 43
[OptiMum] 213 70.76 34
biTshifT 198 65.78 19
UnDeRpAnT 190 63.12 11
PiTi 188 62.46 9
Frenzy 187 62.13 8
VeNgEnCe 178 59.14 -1
Whitewolf2 151 50.17 -28
Cheeezy 145 48.17 -34
DeMoNiK 130 43.19 -49
ShaMbles 125 41.53 -54
rOxOr 70 23.26 -109
CyBeRmAn 14 4.65 -165

The averages are for operators to see how they are doing.

Please note that all stats in the future, however long the period, will be for that period only as it will be impossible to catch the front runners as the tickets close after a certain about of hours.

The following will be removed:

  • rOxOr
  • CyBeRmAn

Inquisitors

Overall we’re happy with the work of the Inquisitor team as they have dealt with a few cases already, however, we will remove one member from this team.

To be removed:

  • SoloBoom

All changes to take effect by 04/12/2009. This document may change over the implementation period.

The remaining staff are now officially off the trial period. Congratulations and thank you for all of your help!
