So, ya’ll have recently updated to 1.24c. In my upgrade guide, I tried to discourage the 30mb patch and asked users to try get the automatic patch working. Well, its been 5 days since I uploaded the files and we have already burned 160 gigabytes of traffic serving the large patches. Assuming around 8c per megabyte, this cost is around R13 000. Since the patch is 42 times smaller, nearly R10 000 of bandwidth was wasted because people didn’t know how to setup a registry key.
Fun fact.

Hosting a game with a bot will result in a minimum of a double punish on your account. The bot account will be locked.
Made this more clear in the rule section.

From all of us at Twilight, we wish you the very best of the festive season. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the recent changes we’ve made the server and are as excited as we are for what 2010 has to offer.
Have a good one!
With 2 new heroes and a TONNE of other changes, we really recommend reading the changelog.
The 6.65 map is available from our downloads section.
Lane Calling
Lane calling is to be adhered to, the first person to call a lane gets it. If you do not adhere to this rule then you will be punished for game ruining. However, you should not (but you may) call lanes before you have a hero. If you call your lane before you have chosen your hero, other players may get a bit upset with lane with you.If you do however call lanes before you receive your hero, please make sure that you are capable of solo’ing with that hero.
We’ve added that you should not call solo before you have chosen your hero. Many abuse this when they are not capable of even playing the solo role. This guide-line will help ensure that the solo hero is capable of being a solo for the game against the opposing heroes.
Please Note: Spamming before you receive a hero is not punishable, however it is frowned upon. This is a simple guide line for what not to do, as others would also like turns to solo. If you continue to spam solo before you receive a hero it is unfair upon others. Overall, you shouldn’t call Solo before your receive your hero in AR games as someone might receive a better solo hero.

The 1.24c update has just been applied to the server. While this update was released a while ago, we were waiting on our new downloads section to be properly working. To apply the update, follow this recipe:
Connect to Battle.NET and follow the prompts. After it restarts, quit and restart again (as the game starts with war3.exe not w3l.exe).
Pretty simple. The ~700kb update should be automatically downloaded and applied. Obviously, we are aware that not all users have a working setup and will encounter issues when applying the patch. Typically, these issues are one of the following:
There are hundreds of update guides out there, including many which I have written (such as the original 1.24 Upgrade Guide). I am not going to reduplicate all that information again, so just go clicking through those links.
If you are a complete moron and cannot get the patches working, then you need to get the changed files and extract them to your game folder. This is a last resort and is not recommended because you will have joined the train of 1000′s of noobs who continuously rely on these failsafes and waste our bandwidth downloading 30mb files instead of 700kb patches. Click here if you’re an idiot.
Finally, here are some more resources:

The past month or so has seen a plethora of tournaments hosted by Nox, and after discussing possible options and positions we decided to add him.
If you feel that you need to contact Nox in regards to a tournament, or if you would like to contact the Community Activist team to host a tournament please use the following methods.

It’s been a while since Twilight has directly linked files on our website. Historically we had a folder we just dumped stuff to and provided links to these files from various forum posts. As to be expected, it wasn’t long before this got abused: so-called “hackers” thought it would be amusing to continuously download these files very slowly, thereby locking up our Web server.
We then swapped to the ISGaming FTP, who have been hosting maps, patches and applications for the past several months on our behalf. This situation no longer works for us, nor do we believe in the uselessness that is FTP.
This afternoon I setup our own little download area, which you can get to at /downloads. This area is custom written (as is the rest of the Portal) and all downloads are protected behind a login – which makes it that much harder to abuse.
Right now, I have uploaded the latest DotA and Mumble versions. During the week we will make the new W3 patch available from this area as well as linking the stable loaders and so forth.
Happy downloading.
Our ticket system will now be able to reward players that win, or come second in certain tournaments and events.
All events have the prizing structure of:
150exp for first place winners (each player/entrant receives this)
100exp for second place winners (each player/entrant receives this)
All weekly, and weekend tournaments have adopted this prizing structure and it will soon be available for Sig of the Week.
Some of you may have noticed a ‘party cup for semi admins’ or even a ‘sci-fi condom’ on the server recently, and these signs simply represent the CA team. And no – I did not make those two names up, apparently that is what people have called it.
Over the next few days we’ll be overlooking the levels of all Twilight Staff, and then bump them up a bit more. We might work out a level structure so that users can distinguish what position they hold (while in-game) by checking their level.
Stay tuned!
